Editorial

Editorial is a project focused on concept development, visual interpretation, and narrative depth. Students selected an article of their choice and began by researching multiple texts and pitching several illustration concepts before committing to a final direction. This emphasis on iteration encouraged students to move beyond the most literal or expected ideas and instead develop illustrations that offer a thoughtful, engaging perspective on the content.

Alongside illustration, students designed the full article layout, typesetting the text as if for publication. This required building a clear typographic hierarchy and a cohesive type system that complemented the illustration and supported readability. The project emphasized close reading, conceptual thinking, and the relationship between image and text, reinforcing how editorial illustration can communicate complex ideas with clarity, nuance, and visual impact.
